Jeet Kune Do is already conflicted. Bruce always said that styles, names, and forms were all very bad!! He wishes that he didn't have a name for this. But, he does, because he needs a way to refer to the way HE fights. He knows that this is not the gospel truth and it's just the same that happened with all the other styles. Some guy had some hypotheses and his followers thought it to be like the gospel truth. So they solidified it. That is happening today to Jeet Kune Do!! Now, it's spreading, more people are learning it, but they're not being flimsy. Jeet Kune Do is something that you're supposed to take what you can use from it, then throw the rest out. It is NOT in any way the "Bible" of Martial arts! Yes, it definitely worked for Bruce, but... what works for YOU? What works for me is my own method. I am starting a school soon, and I do not have a name for it. I will have a name for it for such referral, but just the same, it's a school of open-minded-ness. This is not about perfecting a style, but perfecting an unstyle, and learning how to express one's self honestly and not inventing technique for the mere purpose of show which in turns takes no technique. Just like stunt doubles on TV who have to do the "techinique" but in real life, they could not hit the ground with a spoon. Open-minded-ness and expressing one's self honestly...that is art.

In my news column, I will have quotes in a marquee. These quotes will be taken from many people and probably MANY of the quotes from The Tao of Jeet Kune Do because this book is really just a book about a real human being and his thoughts. It does not teach Martial arts, but teaches a way of life and in turn, teaches Martial arts. A human's thoughts can be very valuable, or not valuable at all. There is no label on Bruce's knowledge, or any of our knowledge. The value comes from the reader. As far as I am concerned, Bruce is a major part of my life with his thinking, and not a day goes by where I do not think of this man and how cool he was. In turn, this is how I should be thinking Jesus, and I do. In fact, don't get me wrong. I do not idolize Bruce, but I simply believe that is knowledge is valuable to me. Jesus' knowledge is far greater and more important and I will admit there are days that go by that I don't ask as many questions as I should. I always have some question for Jesus, but there have been days where I thought about Bruce more. Maybe I should write a book about this conflict in my mind.

Jeet Kune Do means "The Way of the Intercepting Fist". This means that any attack that comes at you, you should be able to properly stop it or hinder it or slow it by using one punch. That does not mean attacking the attack, but the attack leaves an open area and you take that opportunity. Actually, you do not take that opportunity - you should tune yourself in such a manner that it happens all by itself. This is the concept of Jeet Kune Do.
